Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Specialist (1.0 FTE)

The Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University and IWK Health is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) physician at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. This individual will join a team of one other rehabilitation physician, a nurse practitioner, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, social workers, speech language pathologists, psychologists, recreation therapists, and rehab assistants. The academic physician will provide clinical service across the full spectrum of pediatric rehabilitation medicine. They will work across inpatient and outpatient settings and in close collaboration with multiple services, in particular, orthopedic surgery, and neurosurgery. The rehabilitation program provides a full range of specialty rehabilitation care including intrathecal baclofen, selective dorsal rhizotomy, multi-level orthopedic surgery, and intensive inpatient rehabilitation.

This position offers an opportunity to pursue an academic career within a stable funding environment. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to participate in academic research and teaching opportunities. They will join a growing interdisciplinary team of researchers based at IWK and Dalhousie with local, national, and international collaborations supporting childhood disability research. The division provides teaching opportunities for medical students, and residents from pediatrics and PM&R. There is opportunity to further develop a portfolio of medical education supporting childhood disability.

Qualifications must include an MD degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university and eligibility for certification in either Pediatrics or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and specialty training in pediatric rehabilitation medicine or equivalent experience. Eligibility for medical licensure in the Province of Nova Scotia is essential. Compensation and academic appointment are commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The IWK Health Centre is a tertiary pediatric and women’s hospital and serves as the pediatric referral centre for the Maritime Provinces and the only level 1 pediatric trauma centre. Halifax, with a metropolitan population of almost 500,000 is a lively harbor city, balanced by excellent and diverse cultural venues. It has a thriving arts and music scene, and it is the business and economic centre of Maritime Canada.
